Did you know?
Birds are living dinosaurs. All modern birds evolved from theropod dinosaurs of the Cretaceous period — making them the only dinosaur lineage that survived the mass extinction 66 million years ago.
Geological history

230 million years of life

The age of dinosaurs spanned three distinct periods — each with its own climate, flora and fauna.

🌋
Triassic
252–201 million years ago
The first dinosaurs emerged from a supercontinent called Pangaea. The climate was hot and dry, with no polar ice caps. These early dinosaurs were generally small and fast.
Eoraptor Coelophysis Plateosaurus
🌿
Jurassic
201–145 million years ago
Pangaea split apart and lush forests spread across the globe. Dinosaurs grew to enormous sizes. Sauropods became the largest land animals that ever lived.
Brachiosaurus Stegosaurus Diplodocus Allosaurus
☄️
Cretaceous
145–66 million years ago
The golden age of dinosaurs. Flowering plants appeared, new species evolved. Ended with a catastrophic asteroid impact that caused the mass extinction of non-avian dinosaurs.
T. Rex Triceratops Velociraptor Spinosaurus
